Amsterdam Brewery

Royal Unibrew A/S, headquartered in Faxe, Denmark and listed on Nasdaq Copenhagen, closed its acquisition of Amsterdam Brewery Co. Ltd. on September 15, 2022 (company announcement no. 43/2022, enterprise value CAD 44 million) and its 2025 annual report lists Amsterdam Brewery Co. Ltd., Canada, at 100% ownership. The parent has no controlling shareholder (Chr. Augustinus Fabrikker A/S holds 14.94%), so the whole stake is allocated to the parent's home country. Corporations Canada returned zero results for the name, so the entity is a provincial (Ontario) corporation and the Ontario Business Registry could not be checked today; the vendor's own careers page confirms a global head office in Denmark. The CANADA List still describes the brand as Canadian-owned, which is out of date.

All Amsterdam beer is brewed at the company's own 62,500 square foot brewery at 45 Esandar Drive in Toronto, where it has been since 2012. Royal Unibrew's 2025 annual report names Toronto, Canada as one of its 20 production sites, and the LCBO product listing for Boneshaker Juicy Haze reads Made in Ontario, Canada by Amsterdam.

The brewery and its head office are in Leaside, with two brewpub restaurants and two Brewmart stores elsewhere in Toronto, and Royal Unibrew's country-by-country table reports an average of 86 employees in Canada for 2025. The vendor's careers page says the global head office is in Denmark, so a small share is allocated to the EU for group management; the 90/10 split is an estimate, not a published figure.

The vendor publishes no ingredient sourcing; product pages describe only a blend of hops and over four malts. Malt, water, and can filling are assumed mostly Canadian given the Toronto brewery and Canada's domestic malting industry, while hops for the IPA-heavy range are assumed largely from the US Pacific Northwest with some European varieties, and aluminum can stock partly imported. The online store runs on Shopify, a Canadian platform. The split is an estimate, and The CANADA List's claim of Canadian ingredients is uncorroborated.
