Canadian Club

Beam Inc.'s February 2014 10-K lists Canadian Club Canada Inc. among its subsidiaries, and Beam's April 2014 8-K records the merger that left Beam a wholly owned subsidiary of Suntory Holdings Limited, a Japanese corporation. The vendor's own site is copyrighted to Canadian Club Import Company of New York and links to Suntory Global Spirits, whose brand page lists Canadian Club today, so the chain still holds. Suntory Global Spirits Inc. is a US intermediate but the ultimate owner is the founding-family-controlled Suntory Holdings of Osaka, so the whole mix goes to OTHER. Corporations Canada returned only unrelated social clubs for the name, so Canadian Club Canada Inc. is presumably a provincial corporation; the Ontario Business Registry could not be searched.

The vendor says the Canadian Club distillery opened in Walkerville, Ontario in 1858 and that the production process for its blended whiskies is mostly unchanged over 165 years later; Wikipedia adds that the whisky is still produced at the Walker site in Windsor, a plant now owned by Pernod Ricard, and the CANADA List corroborates distilling, maturing, and bottling in Canada. The whole mix goes to Canada. No page confirms where the canned CC and ginger ale cocktail is produced, so its share is folded into the Windsor figure as an estimate.

The brand has no workforce of its own at the distillery: the Windsor plant and its staff belong to Hiram Walker and Sons under Pernod Ricard, which makes the whisky under contract. Brand management sits with Suntory Global Spirits at its New York global headquarters and Chicago office, with a smaller Canadian sales and marketing team and group functions in Japan. The 50/40/10 split is an estimate, since neither Suntory nor the vendor publishes headcount by brand or country.

The vendor publishes its grain bill of rye, rye malt, barley malt, and corn but names a grain origin only for 1858; the CANADA List reports the grain is still mostly from Ontario and the Prairies with possible imports through Suntory's supply chain. Canadian whisky is matured largely in once-used American bourbon barrels, so the US share covers cooperage; glass and closure origin was not published. The 70/30 split is an estimate.
