Clover Leaf is Canada's top canned seafood brand by trust and shelf presence, run from a Markham, Ontario office, but it has been part of FCF Co., Ltd. of Kaohsiung, Taiwan since FCF bought Bumble Bee Seafoods out of bankruptcy in March 2020. Most tuna is caught and canned overseas; a New Brunswick sardine plant tied to the same corporate family appears to still exist but its current output could not be confirmed.

Bumble Bee Foods LLC, Clover Leaf's parent since a 1999 acquisition and 2004 merger with Connors Bros., was sold out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy to FCF Co., Ltd. of Kaohsiung, Taiwan for about US$928 million in March 2020. The federal corporation Clover Leaf Seafoods Inc. was itself amalgamated into the Connors/Bumble Bee corporate family in 2001 and no longer filers separately, so no Canadian registry shows current control; this rests on press-reported acquisition coverage, not a filing I could reach this session.

Tuna is Clover Leaf's dominant product line by SKU count and Bumble Bee/FCF's tuna supply chain runs through Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Ocean fleets and Asian and Latin American canneries, not Canadian ones. Sardines have historically been canned at Connors Bros.' Blacks Harbour, New Brunswick plant, the only sardine cannery in North America, shared between the Clover Leaf and Brunswick brands (Clover Leaf says it packs no other brand); Bumble Bee's own careers site still lists Blacks Harbour and Saint John, NB as Canadian locations with a Plant/Operations department, but no open postings there and I could not confirm the plant is still in full production today.

  • Connors Bros. - Wikipedia other “the only remaining producer of sardines in North America”

Clover Leaf's Canadian business is run from Bumble Bee's Markham, Ontario office, which the parent's own careers site lists under a "Canadian Corporate Office" department alongside Canadian plant locations, so the staff serving Canadian shoppers are Canada-based.

Tuna, the majority raw material by product count, is wild-caught in the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Oceans, largely outside Canadian or US waters. Salmon is wild-caught in the North Pacific and Bering Sea, a mix of Canadian (BC) and Alaskan (US) runs; no sourcing percentages are published, so this is an estimate.
