Planet Bean's current About Us page describes it only as an independent Ontario specialty coffee company headquartered in Guelph, without naming an owner or legal structure. Archived snapshots of the site from 2014 through early 2026 described the business as co-operatively driven and framed workers as sharing in profits and decisions, language that no longer appears now that the company has begun offering franchise territory licenses. Corporations Canada and the Ontario Business Registry both blocked automated search, so the current legal structure could not be independently confirmed, but nothing found points to any owner outside Canada.

All Planet Bean coffee is roasted in small batches at the company's own roastery at 259 Grange Road in Guelph, Ontario, under President and Director of Coffee Andrew Loveland. No co-packing or outside roasting facility is mentioned anywhere on the site, including on its franchise page, which supplies new locations from the same Guelph roastery rather than roasting on site.

Planet Bean is a single-site business: its head office, roastery, and both of its cafes (Wyndham and Grange) are in Guelph, Ontario, and every team member named on its Our Team page, from the President and Director of Coffee down to the baristas, is based there.

Green coffee cannot be grown in Canada, so every bean Planet Bean roasts is imported. Its About Us page names Chiapas, Mexico, the Peru highlands, and East Africa's growing regions as its sources, and its wholesale price list and Kenya sourcing page name specific origins including Ethiopian Yirgacheffe and Peruvian lots. All of these fall in OTHER, with no stated EU or US origin.
